How We Are Organised

Following its establishment in 2000 Sosúa Kids was organised on an effective but informal basis, with practical and policy decisions being decided by a core group of people who were involved with the organisation from the start. Because of the enormous growth in its activities and responsibilities over the subsequent years, in 2008 it was decided to seek registration as a non-profit or charitable organisation (Associación sin fines de lucro) under the terms of the law of The Dominican Republic. After a process of approval and registration lasting a year, our Certificate of Incorporation was issued in November 2009.  Our affairs are now conducted in accordance with the normal requirements of Dominican Law for such approved organisations.  We have a formally-approved Constitution (currently only available in Spanish) and we are required to submit an annual financial report to the authorities.  These arrangements should give added confidence to all our supporters that the funds we raise and administer are used effectively for the purposes of our association - supporting the education of poorer children from Sosúa and its surrounding area.

The association is run by a group or board of seven people which includes directors and other members.

The directors and members normally meet monthly  in Sosúa in order to discuss and make decisions relating to fundraising and to the distribution of the funds we have raised in order to achieve our aims.  These meetings are also attended by the leading members of our local fundraising team.
