Donations by Individuals

The following donations have recently been received from individuals or informal groups of people who have wanted to support our work.  Thank you to all concerned.

A collection of portfolio cases, together with geometry sets and other useful items, left at The Britannia Pub by Steve and Jan Lampman and Mike Brenaut.

A Tesco Supermarket bag full of pens, pencils, exercise books and other items left at The Book Nook bookshop by a visitor from the UK in January 2012.

A large supply of crayons and other items donated in January 2012 by Gail and Skip Cather and their foundation DR Castaway Kids.  This is the latest of many donations from these generous supporters.

2,000 pesos donated by Gary of Salon De Paris, Sosua, being his winnings at the Jolly Roger Bar's Bingo game on 27 December 2011.

A donation of 60 US dollars left for us at the Britannia Bar in December 2011 by John, a visitor to Sosua staying at the Casa Marina Resort.

3,000 pesos given in memory of Jim Prott, a well-loved Scot who contributed much to his adopted country, Canada.  This was given in two separate donations, each to fund one child in school for a year.

A small suitcase-load of school bags, pens and pencils donated in November 2011 by Sabrina Poirier, a visitor from Montreal staying at the Iberostar Resort, Costa Dorada.

A donation of 70 dollars in order for us to put a further child in school, received from visitors Rita and Colin Sali.

A further donation of 1,000 pesos from local residents and regular donors Paula and Kel Dobson.

A check for 100 dollars received by post from US resident Cy Yannarelli in November 2011.

1,150 pesos donated by Tyler Cornell.  We understand that this donation may be from the proceeds of the opening night of The Crab Shack which is situated in Beach Way Plaza, Sosua, at the top of the steps from the road leading down to Sosua Bay beach.

A bag of school supplies left at West Indies Real Estate  by Maaike and Kyle, visitors to Sosua.   Also two further collections of supplies left at West Indies and at The Book Nook bookshop.  The names of the donors were not passed on to us, but we understand that they included a couple from the UK.

A donation of 50 dollars left for us at The Britannia Pub in October 2011.

A further large collection of used and new rucksacks donated during the summer of 2011 by staff at Thomson Airways (colleagues of Sosua Kids Board member Dave Auffret).

150 Canadian dollars donated by Lori and Wade Young-Beaumont from Alberta, Canada. Our special thanks for this donation are due since we understand that Lori travelled to the airport in the small hours of the morning in order to hand it to our former president, Karen Conquergood, who was about to depart in order to return to Sosua.

A cheque for 75 dollars received by post from Jean Enneson of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

A gift of backpacks, notepads, pencils and other supplies by Marlon and friends from the USA, visitors to Costa Dorada in Puerto Plata in September 2011.

A further donation of 3,800 pesos from local residents  Richard and Karen Levy, being the contents of Richard's piggy bank.

Three backpacks full of supplies given to us by Joe Zenevitch and family, visitors to Costa Dorada from the USAThis donation was particularly welcome since it was made just at the time when we were sorting out supplies ready for distribution to local children at the start of the 2011/2012 school year.

A donation handed to us by Michelle Bennett during her August 2011 visit to Sosúa.  This consists of $100 Canadian given by Michelle herself and a further $600 Canadian given by friends in Halifax, Nova Scotia - Kate and Jim Lawrence, Linda Schnare, Angela King and Nancy Phipps.  Taken together, these donations are sufficient to enable us to put 18/19 children in school for a year.  Thank you!

A donation of 1,500 pesos by Barbara Krsek, a visitor to Sosúa staying at Casa Marina.

A large number of rucksacks donated by air crews of Thomson Airways.  Our thanks to all concerned , and especially to pilot Chris Robinson and his contacts in the mountain rescue teams of the English Lake District; also to Evelyn Rowand who arranged the delivery of many or the rucksacks and who has helped us with several previous donations.

An anonymous donation of 6,000 pesos received in late April 2011.  Two further anonymous donations, one of 500 pesos and the other a bag of school supplies.

A donation of US$ 100 from Deb Grover

A donation of £100 from two English friends and supporters who help us regularly but wish to remain anonymous..  This  donation is equivalent to approximately 6,000 pesos - enough to provide uniforms and supplies for four children.

A Toshiba laptop computer donated by Natalie De'Santis and Greg Baillie.  This will be auctioned at our Easter 2011 Family Day to raise money to support our work.

US$ 135 donated by Esther and Peter Stirneman of Switzerland and handed to us by a friend of theirs who was visiting Sosua.  This donation enables us to provide school uniforms and supplies to three additional disadvantaged children.

Three hold-all bags filled with over 30 backbacks and other school supplies collected and given to us in March 2011 by Neil and Angela Duerksen of Niagara Falls, Ontario on one of their regular visits to Sosua.

A donation of 4,000 pesos by local residents Margarita and Jochen Elbers.

US$ 180 donated by Mr and Mrs Newell immediately before their departure from Sosua for relocation in North America.

A further donation of 2,000 pesos by Sosua residents Kel and Paula Dobson who have supported us regularly over the years

A donation of pens and pencils left anonymously at The Checkpoint Bar at the end of February 2011.

500 pesos donated by Bev and Ed Robertson on 21 February.  This donation was taken from their winnings at The Jolly Roger's Tuesday afternoon Bingo game.

A holdall full of school supplies collected by Michelle Bennett of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and brought to Sosua in February 2011 by Christopher Daw of The Music For Good organisation.

Four backpacks stuffed with school supplies, together with a donation of 80 Canadian Dollars, collected and donated by Grade 6 children at Balmy Beach Elementary School, Toronto, and presented to us by their teacher, Karen Armstrong, during her visit to Sosua/Cabarete in December 2010.

Donations of various amounts and currencies given to us in connection with our Christmas Fun Fair 2010.  Some donations were specifically to help with costs of mounting the Fair whilst others are to be used directly for the purchase of uniforms and supplies.  Donors included Ken and Elaine Brown, Lynn Decunha, Dan and Vera Duffy, Trevor Farrell, Len and Elva Girouard, Christine and Balthazar Gysin and Bruce and Mary Sali.  A number of further donations were made anonymously.

A collection of children's school supplies (pens, pencils, crayons, paper etc.) brought down to us from Canada by Holly and Tom Frizell from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and Laura and Terry Luft from Bassano, Alberta.  We were pleased to be able to arrange a school visit for these generous donors during their stay in Sosúa.

4,000 pesos given to us in October by local resident Richard Levy, this being the contents of his Piggy Bank.  (What a wonderful and practical way of putting money aside for charity!)

Two donations, which together comprise 140 small backpacks and some other school supplies, from Evelyn Rowands of Thomson Airways.

A donation of backpacks, Beanie Babies (adding to their previous gift of these collectable toys - see below) and school shoes from Gail and Skip Cater of Sosua.

A donation of $200 from Jim and Kate Lawrence of Halifax, Nova Scotia, who have also supported us generously in the past.

A donation of 18,000 pesos from Peter and Mayerlin Meyers, received in August 2010 during their visit to Sosua.

Five suitcases of school supplies from Rosheen and Paul Taylor, members of Coconut Palms, Cabarete, and their family.

A donation of US$ 70 plus assorted childrens' school supplies from generous people at The Moorcroft Community Centre, Woking, Surrey in The United Kingdom.  This donation was presented to our President, Karen Conquergood, by Adele Hall and her husband Jez.

Donations of US$50 and UK£20 made respectively by Colin Taylor and Martin Phillips, two pilots using Puerto Plata Airport.

$ 125 Canadian given by Deborah and James Jeffs of Cambridge, Ontario.  Their cheque was presented to us by Holly Vokubrat who was visiting Sosúa.

A collection of over 170 Fantasy Books provided by Gail and Skip Cater.  These will be sold locally in Sosúa.  These will be sold at The Book Nook bookshop and other locations in Sosúa to raise funds for our work. (Gail and Skip also recently gave us a wonderful collection of Beanie Babies).

Two donations from Beecher Miller of Beecher's Bar in Sosúa.  These comprised a suitcase and five boxes of separately shipped goods which included backpacks and childrens' school supplies, together with some additional items which we have been able forward to others who are helping the earthquake victims in Haiti.  We understand that this donation to us included items provided by other generous people from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.  Thank you to all concerned.
